Everything you need to know for Commencement 2013

Graduation is on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 10:30am and 3:30PM. In order to walk in the commencement ceremony, you must apply for graduation through JayStop by March 8, 2013. Commencement will be held at Jacob Javits Center North. Students are entitled to only three guest tickets. If guests require special accommodations, you must contact the Office of Accessibility at least two months before commencement. If you have completed the majority of your credits by the end of the spring semester but you need to take additional courses in the summer, you cannot walk in the May 2013 commencement.

Additional info about ordering cap and gowns, purchasing class rings, senior week activities, submitting photos to the yearbook, and the ceremonies for each major is provided below.

If you have any further questions regarding Commencement, you can attend the town hall meetings, sponsored by the Office of Transition Programs, on February 20, 2013 at 1:30pm in room L.61 and 6:00pm in 630T. In addition to the first town hall meeting, there will be another meeting on February 28, 2013 at 1:30PM and 6:00PM in room L.61.

To purchase your cap and gowns, you must order the cap and gown from Jostens with a money order or credit/debit card. Jostens do not accept cash payments. Cap and gowns cost $45.00 which includes the gown, hood, and charm. During the graduation salute, you will receive your cap and gown, yearbook, honor cords (if necessary), and senior gifts. For the date of graduation salute, please refer to the calendar below.

Jostens is also the company for students to purchase graduation rings. You can do payment installments for the purchase of your graduation ring. They will be on campus on February 5, 6, 7 from 12:00PM-6:00PM in the New Building Atrium.

For the yearbook, the deadline to submit graduation photos is February 28, 2013. Thornton Studios will take graduation photos on campus on the first floor of the new building, opposite of JJ Café. The dates for photos are February 5, 6, 7, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28. Also, if you are interested in submitting baby photos and/or couple photos, you can email the photos to johnjayyearbook@gmail.com.

Please arrive at the Javits Center by 9:00am. The morning ceremony is for recipients of the following degrees: Correctional Administration, Correctional Studies, Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Administration and Planning, Economics, Fire Science, Police Studies, Protection Management, Public Administration, or Security Management.

The afternoon ceremony is for recipients of the following degrees: Computer Information Systems, Criminology, Deviant Behavior (Culture and Deviance Studies), English, Forensic Computing, Forensic Psychology, Forensic Science, Gender Studies, Global History, International Crime and Justice, International Criminal Justice, Judicial Studies, Justice Studies (Humanities and Justice Studies), Legal Studies, Mental Health Counseling, Philosophy, Political Science (Government), or Dispute Resolution Certificate.

If you are interested in applying for a commencement award, the deadline to apply is March 8, 2013.
