Indhira Castro, Vice President

Indhira Castro serves as the Vice President of the MPA Student Association at John Jay College. She is in the MPA- Public Policy program specializing in Management and Operations. For the past 15 years, Ms. Castro has worked as a public servant in different capacities (both in the non-profit sector and for the City of New York). Currently, Ms. Castro is a Bilingual Special Education teacher at a High School in East New York, Brooklyn, where she teaches History and ELA. Passionate about both education and policy, Ms. Castro has a desire to shed light on the gaps that exist between research, policy, and educational practice. She hopes to engage in work throughout her career that closes those gaps and enables her to advocate for more strategic decision-making from those designing policy solutions for our nation’s most vulnerable students.

Carmela Louis, Treasurer

Carmela was elected as treasurer in June 2021. She oversees the financial administration of the club. Carmela had zero experience when she was elected and was eager to learn and grow. Carmela transitioned from a small town in Connecticut to the city to attend John Jay and become a member of our board. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement from Western Connecticut State University. She is pursuing a Master of Public Administration and is passionate about fraud investigation and auditing.
